Designing for the user experience has a lot more to it than making a product usable. Usability allows people to easily accomplish their goals. UX design as a practice covers more than that, it’s about giving people a delightful and meaningful experience. That is why interaction and motion design are so important.
A great design should be pleasurable, thoughtfully crafted, makes you happy, and gets you immersed.
That is what I was trying to accomplish when creating those animations for the mobile app of the Singapore telco M1. The idea was to turn a frustration touch point with the app when the user may encounter an error page or empty state into a delightful and meaningful experience through the use of those characters animations.
